Overview
A concrete driveway is the largest single concrete pour most homeowners ever commission — and the one most likely to be done wrong. Houston's expansive clay soil and brutal summer cure conditions punish any cut corner. We don't cut them.
- 4" thick residential standard with #3 rebar on a 16" grid
- 6" thick heavy-vehicle and RV pads with #4 rebar
- 4" of mechanically compacted base — never just sand or dirt
- Saw-cut control joints at proper depth (1/4 of slab thickness)
- Curing compound applied within 1 hour of finishing in summer
- Demo and haul-away of existing concrete included in every quote

What You Should Know Before You Pour
Driveway Thickness Standards
Houston code allows 4" residential, but anything carrying truck weight (RVs, work trucks, boat trailers) needs 6". We never spec under 4" — and we'll tell you straight if your usage demands a thicker pour.
Rebar vs. Fiber Mesh
Fiber mesh is fine for sidewalks. Driveways need real steel: #3 rebar on a 16" grid for residential, #4 for heavy load. Rebar prevents the cracks that fiber mesh only hides.
Expansion & Control Joints
Control joints are saw-cut at 10–12 ft spacing within 12 hours of pour. Expansion joints (1/2" foam) at the garage face and any abutment to existing slab. This is non-negotiable in Houston soil.
Texas Summer Cure Time
Foot traffic in 24 hours. Light vehicles after 7 days. Full strength at 28 days. We use a sprayed curing compound to slow surface evaporation — preventing the surface scaling that kills uncured Texas pours.
Finish Options
Standard broom finish (anti-slip, classic), exposed aggregate (decorative, premium), or smooth trowel for stamped overlay candidates. We'll show samples on-site so you choose with your own eyes.
Color & Stain Options
Integral color mixed at the truck for permanent results, or surface-applied acid stain for variegated tones. Earth, charcoal, slate, and warm browns are most popular for Houston brick homes.
Demo & Haul-Away
We saw-cut, break out, and haul off all existing concrete and base material. Pouring over old concrete bonds poorly and accelerates failure — never an option we offer.
Typical Pricing Ranges
Most Houston residential driveways fall in the $9–$14 per square foot range installed, including demo. Decorative finishes, stamping, and unusual access add to that. Every quote is itemized.
FAQ
Common Questions
4 inches for standard residential vehicles. 6 inches for trucks, RVs, or boat trailers. Houston's clay soil makes anything thinner a future repair bill.
