Overview
Foundation slabs are not the place to save money. Houston's expansive clay soil moves with every rain cycle, and any slab not engineered for that movement will fail. We pour foundations the way Houston soil demands — properly designed, properly reinforced, and properly cured.
- Post-tension slabs with cable layouts to engineer specs
- Monolithic slabs with thickened edge beams and grade beams
- Garage pads and detached garage foundations
- Shed and accessory structure foundations
- Equipment pads (HVAC, generator, pool equipment)
- Site-cast walkways tied to existing structures

What You Should Know Before You Pour
Foundation Slab Types Used in Houston
Post-tension is the modern Houston standard — steel cables tensioned after pour to keep the slab in compression even when soil moves. Conventional rebar slabs work for smaller pours and accessory buildings. Pier-and-beam still has a place on highly expansive sites.
How Clay Soil Affects Slab Design
Houston gumbo clay can swell 4–6% volumetrically with moisture. Slabs are designed to either resist this movement (post-tension) or move uniformly with it (deep grade beams, even moisture distribution). The wrong choice cracks foundations.
Pier-and-Beam vs. Slab
Slab-on-grade is faster, cheaper, and more common — but pier-and-beam still wins on highly active soil sites or properties with significant elevation change. We'll give you straight advice on which fits your lot.
Garage Pads
Detached garage pads are typically 5" thick with #4 rebar on 16" grid, with thickened 12" perimeter beams supporting wall loads. We coordinate with your framing contractor on anchor bolt placement.
Accessory Building Foundations
Shed pads, workshop foundations, gazebo pads — sized to load. Most home shed pads are 4" with mesh; workshop and shop foundations get rebar and engineered thickened edges.
Equipment Pads
HVAC condenser pads, generator pads, pool equipment pads — 4" reinforced, isolated from main slab to prevent vibration transfer. Sized to manufacturer specs.

Common Questions
Anything supporting living space (new home, addition, ADU) — yes, by code. Garage pads and accessory structures often don't require stamped engineering. We'll tell you which path your project needs.
